About this property
Highlands NC Mountain Lodge • Hot Tub • Game Room • Big Creek • Sleeps 14
Under three hours from Atlanta, Lotts of Sky is the mountain getaway families remember long after the vacation ends. Tucked between Highlands and Cashiers on a private wooded mountainside, the home is surrounded by forest and filled with the soothing sounds of Big Creek and its nearby waterfall.
Designed for multi-generational vacations, Lotts of Sky offers three king suites for the adults, a Kids' Camp Room and Kids' Clubhouse for the younger guests, four stone fireplaces, a hot tub beneath the trees, wraparound porches, and a chef's kitchen built for memorable family meals. Whether you're hiking Whiteside Mountain, browsing the shops of Highlands, enjoying dinner at nearby Oak Steakhouse, or roasting marshmallows around the outdoor fireplace, every day ends the same way—together.
Skyline Lodge and Oak Steakhouse are just a seven-minute walk from the front porch, while downtown Highlands is only ten minutes away.

A Place Where Kids Unplug and Families Reconnect
We purchased Lotts of Sky six years ago because it felt different from every other mountain home we visited. It wasn't just beautiful—it was designed for families to be together without ever feeling crowded. Since then, we've continued to make thoughtful improvements to create the kind of mountain getaway we'd want for our own family.
The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home comfortably sleeps six adults and six children, with a layout that gives everyone room to relax while naturally bringing everyone together. Mornings begin with coffee on the porch and the sounds of Big Creek drifting through the trees. Evenings end around the outdoor fireplace, soaking in the hot tub beneath the stars, or sharing stories beside one of the three indoor stone fireplaces.
At the heart of the home is a gourmet chef's kitchen featuring a six-burner gas range, generous prep space, and everything needed for everything from pancake breakfasts to holiday feasts. Whether you're cooking after a day on the trails or preparing Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family, the kitchen becomes part of the experience.
Kids usually claim the entire lower level as their own. The Kids' Camp Room sleeps six children (95-pound weight limit per bunk), while the Kids' Clubhouse features ping pong, foosball, mini billiards, cornhole, and board games. Outside, the backyard zip line and surrounding woods keep the adventures going long after the hiking boots come off.
Guests often tell us they love how peaceful and secluded the property feels while still being close to everything. You can spend the morning hiking to waterfalls, the afternoon shopping or dining in Highlands, and be back in time to watch the sunset from the porch without ever feeling rushed.
Explore the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau • 8 minutes to Downtown Highlands • 15 minutes to Cashiers • Minutes from hiking trails • Near Dry Falls • Near Whiteside Mountain • Easy drive to Lake Glenville • Close to several public golf courses
Whether you're celebrating a milestone birthday, gathering three generations for Thanksgiving, escaping the summer heat, or simply looking for a peaceful mountain retreat, Lotts of Sky offers the perfect home base for making memories together.
Dogs are welcome! We simply ask that they stay off beds and furniture, remain leashed outdoors, and that owners clean up after them. A pet fee applies.
Need additional space? Reserve the detached garage apartment along with the main house to accommodate up to 16 guests (10 adults and 6 children). See our combined Vrbo listing (#2225631) for details.
The best vacations aren't measured by how much you do—they're measured by the memories you make together. We hope Lotts of Sky becomes one of those places your family returns to year after year.

House was beautiful in a convenient yet quiet location. Plenty of room for 6 adults and teens. Multiple indoor/outdoor fireplaces. Marty was very responsive to any issues that came up. Would highly recommend for a Highlands visit.
Amazing stay, unique place, tons of entertainment! Perfect for multiple couples and just a few miles from downtown highlands and amazing waterfalls, especially Dry Falls!
We had a blast spending time in the mountains over a long weekend. The kids enjoyed the hottub, the woods and the zip line! There was plenty of space for us all to sit, relax and enjoy each others company!
Great house for a family or small group. Accommodations were great and the separate spaces allowed everyone to have the vacation they wanted. Management team was very responsive and addressed any issues that arose immediately.
We enjoyed Lotts of Sky, especially all the outdoor covered living space. We were completely remote. Our only disappointment was that we didn't see any bears. Maybe next time, as we qoyld absolutely love to go back!
We loved our stay at this cabin. It was so cozy and enjoyable and our family loved the time around the fireplaces, the hot tub, zip line, and so much more. Marty was a fabulous host. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone.
Excellent communication from homeowner. Marty was friendly and helpful. Also, his picture directions into this remote property were so great! Cabin is rustic and lovely with great views. Very convenient location between Cashiers and Highlands. Bathrooms were clean and house was well stocked for guests. Also this home has super outdoor porch space!
Our family took a 5 day trip for vacation and stayed at Lotts of Sky. It was a nice house and the porches are AMAZING! We cooked most meals in the kitchen which was well sized and stocked with utensils. The weather was cool so we enjoyed the fireplace on the porch. We brought our dogs, so it was the perfect spot to escape for a few days with the whole family and fur babies. We look forward to returning!
House and property were clean, comfortable, spacious, quality and full of options for activities and fun! The zip line was nonfunctional but we probably wouldn’t have used it anyway. We completed the short hike to the waterfall off of the property which was beautiful and lush!! The outdoor fireplace was phenomenal! Proximity to downtown Highlands was perfect! Thanks so much for allowing us to stay!!
WONDERFUL property for our group of 8! The main house was large enough for everyone to spread out but still felt cozy. We loved having all the amenities (especially the fireplaces, hot tub and game room) and the kitchen was AMAZING! Especially helpful to have two ovens when cooking for a large group. Loved how close the house is to Highlands even though it felt pretty remote. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house Marty!
Wonderful large mountain home. Three master BR and a bunk room fit us perfectly. Cool weather allowed us to burn LOTS of wood at outdoor fireplace. Three indoor gas fireplaces were burned frequently. House was clean, kitchen was fabulous and Marty was very responsive. Book it.
Beautiful home in great location. Property manager was very responsive.
Gave 4 of 5 stars due to slim provisions (no dishwasher detergent, no washing machine detergent so we had to go out to purchase; limited cookware) and carpet notably stained in multiple spots on lower and upper levels.
However there was a generous supply of firewood for the wonderful outdoor fireplace, and all indoor gas fireplaces worked well and easily. Hot tub was very clean and heated up quickly and well. Garage space for car was a plus. Our family of 8 had a wonderful stay! We would definitely recommend!

Rustic Mountain Cabin in Highlands
This cabin was spacious and pretty well stocked- in terms of kitchen equipment, towels, etc. The nice thing is the property allows pets, bad thing about that is there were several places with noticeable pet stains. We also couldn’t get in when we arrived. The code didn’t work and it took about half an hour to reach the owner. It was a difficult situation after traveling across country all day with young children because it was very late when we arrived and then couldn’t get in. Overall, good location and ample space for a big family.
Let me start out by staying Marty, one of the property co-owners/property managers could not have been nicer and more accommodating, as well as a good communicator. We had a couple of things go wrong while there, but he was right on top of it. There is a crack in the main level tub that renders it unusable, however Marty let me know this in advance that they were looking into a fix. From a location standpoint, the property is extremely remote and a bit difficult to get to, and is very private on a remote one lane road in a development that never really developed. It allows plenty of natural light and the feeling of being in a treehouse.
From an overall rating standpoint, I cannot give this property more than a 3.5 to 4 star rating. The home is nice, has great bones and potential, but needs a total makeover from a decor/furnishings standpoint. Most all the furniture/decor is very old, drab, worn out, and uncomfortable. Additionally, the old creaky antique bed and mattress on the main level is completely shot and probably the most uncomfortable bed we’ve ever sleep in. I’m talking very bad! The other bedrooms have newer and very comfortable mattresses, so our other guests sleep comfortably, so it’s the main level only that needs replacing. That’s my review in a nutshell. They need to drop about $15k - $20k on new bed/mattress and furnishings, as well as replace the main level tub and this would be a 5 star property. Just keeping it real.
We had a wonderful time. The decks and outside fireplace were fantastic. Property clean. Kitchen has all we needed. Communication with host was the best I’ve ever experienced. Some things a little dated and need some cozy blankets. But would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.
House layout was fantastic! We used all the house amenities and helpful hints our hosts provided! House was in great location and close to town and hiking! Highly recommend for anyone who wants an escape and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery!
We absolutely loved this house. Great location, beautiful views, very well appointed and just a great place for my whole family to stay. The owner is very attentive, informative and nice. We will be back. 😊
