"A nice hotel, but I was disappointed with my last day. I stayed for 5 nights and asked for a late checkout on the final day, only to be told checkout latest was 11am and every hour after would be a charge of £30. This seems a little extortionate and as a frequent traveller and user of this hotel many time before, a little user unfriendly. I understand they have to clean the rooms and make ready for other people, but surely there is a more customer friendly way of dealing with this. "

"I booked this hotel due to it's facilities and wasn't disappointed with my ability to use the pool and hot tube. I will say though not the worst mattress it was very hollow in the middle and mostly in need of a replacement. My friend who slept on the single bed was quite happy though."

"Hotel is perfectly located in the middle of the town and the car park whilst small was reasonably priced at £5 for the night. The receptionist was pleasant and checked us in quickly and off we went to our room. The room was a good size with a king bed but was warm due to this being an old building, although a fan is provided which helped a little. The bathroom whilst functional is a little dated and the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice for...

"The leisure centre was great. The swimming pool was clean, although the water could have been just slightly cooler. Happy hour in the bar Sunday to Thursday was a pleasantry, with £3 beers. The hotel is in a great location and close to lots of good value restaurants. Hotel staff were very helpful."

"Had stayed here before was really impressed however this trip a lot different room not great so did an upgrade expensive also paid to have breakfast for two people the food is lovely Went off for the day to Grimsby for a funeral of an old army mate after a long day came back to find the room not cleaned bed not made no fresh towels on the wife asking for it to be sorted a female receptionist said don’t just want new towels !! Not a great response after paying a lot extra to upgrade the room "

"This was a great property to stay at. Lovely bed and a fantastic shower. It is a grade listed building having previously been Durham's council chambers, and for a while part of the university. The cathedral, castle and town are all walking distance. Highly recommend "

"I give a 3 star rating in the facility area as the beds and pillows fealt like I was sleeping on building site materials. The bed was solid like what I’d imagine sleeping on a concrete block would be like and the pillows were like sand bags. So uncomfortable I hardly slept but that aside I couldn’t fault the place otherwise"

"Stumbled across this place when looking for a stop over after visiting our son get married in Scotland.. all staff are very friendly… special mention to Owen who greeted us… food was absolutely amazing.. excellent choice and portion size and good value.. fab location for Durham and surrounding areas… would def revisit if coming up this way again… fab stay "
