Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

"It continues to amaze me that a not-inexpensive property will still rig the room with (subtly labeled) $5 bottles of water. Gotcha! I get it that they have taken the mini-bars away, but how hard is it to provide a lousy bottle of water? Worse, if you use the glass they provide you, how clean is it, really? I think this property is in the process orf renovation, in that one room we stayed in was modern, and the other not so much. The property over all was high average, not a spectacular value, but a perfect downtown location. And the people were nice, the best part of any hotel ."

"We chose the room with 2 Queen beds and with a balcony. It was pretty spacious. The room was clean and the mattresses were comfortable. The room will be better with a brighter lighting. The second room is warm so we had to open the door so air could go in. Easy check in/out. There’s enough parking spaces. We enjoyed the indoor pool with jacuzzi. The staff were nice. Near to Denny’s, CVS, Whole Foods, etc. It was loud on our last night. We heard people talking outside and I think dragging chairs from the 2nd floor. I wish people will be more thoughtful and respectful to other guests. Good thing, we brought our white noise machine. Otherwise, it was a good stay."
