"Expedia should be ashamed to charge for accommodation in what was a hostel for vagrants. During the period that access was unavailable to us, a neighbour told us that the Hamilton was used to house council-sent people, and we saw three such unfortunate people waiting to enter. My wife was frightened by the property when access was eventually gained, describing it as being like her idea of a prison, and I found it forbidding and inhospitable. We immediately left the building and luckily were able to book accommodation at Lincoln City Centre Travelodge. We were not surprised when we met another couple we had seen at the Hamilton, in the Travelodge reception, who had like us, sought to stay elsewhere upon seeing the Hamilton. Expedia should refund our wasted payment for the awful Hamilton booking, and pay us compensation for the cost of staying at the Travelodge."
"We arrived at 9pm with a car full of expensive filming equipment, no spaces in the car park. I suggested parking where other cars were parking near the hotel on double yellows but the desk person said this was not allowed and they would be moved on, they weren’t nor were the two non disabled cars in the disabled bays. Parking is very badly managed and desk person totally unhelpful. Feel sorry for any disabled drivers as non of the spaces were being used by blue badge holders"
"Room bedding was excellent towels were also good bedroom was dusty and cobwebs behind the bathroom door I don’t think it had been cleaned for a while. Parking was very good"
"Part of the divan (bed) was broken. So seemed like sleeping at an angle with head below your feet. Solved by turning bed around but didn’t solve the problem of it being broken! Breakfast was good and plentiful. Didn’t eat dinner in hotel so can’t comment. Excellent location right opposite cathedral but be aware the cathedral bells toll every 15 minutes between 7am & 11pm!"
"We had a great time. Staff were great (mostly) and really helpful and friendly.
Food in the restaurant was excellent, my wife and I loved every dish. The bar was well stocked with some great (and favourite) scotch so that was a bonus.
We arrived Friday and left Sunday and on the Saturday we had a late lunch which was lovely, sat outside in the garden with the local church in view.
Room was comfy and we had the bonus of a little private courtyard which was unexpected.
Our only negative came on Sunday morning when we came to breakfast. Saturday we'd opted for breakfast in the room which was good, one note, full English could do with either beans or tinned tomatoes as its a bit dry without. Good quality bacon and sausage though.
Sunday went to the breakfast location to be met by member of staff we hadn't seen before who informed us that breakfast wasn't here it was in the bar. I say informed, told us as if we were idiots for not knowing. She escorted us to the bar to a tiny table and asked if we knew about buffet. We didn't so she then took us back to the room we'd originally gone to where we found the buffet and dozens of guests waiting to order breakfast! Back in the bar we were the only people without young children. Obviously now walking back and forward to the real location for drinks and toast. We discovered as we left that there was a bridal fair on in the breakast room which would explain the banishment. Better communication and review would be excellent."
"The code for the wasn’t sent to me, but a phone call fixed that. There are no staff so everything is done by phone or message. Car park is nearby and reasonable. The room was fine with a good shower although it smelt as if someone had been smoking on the landing (not the room) Breakfast is very basic, toast, yoghurt Nescafé and cereals. But that was ok. It’s fine for two nights but I wouldn’t have wanted to stay for a lot longer. Good value overall if basic. "
"We only stayed for one night, and upon arrival we discovered that there are some substantial building works adjacent to the hotel. This means that the hotel car park is limited to even fewer spaces.
Upon arrive at the hotel we had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to check us in. Our room was on the first floor facing the buidling works. Please note that there is no lift in the hotel that we found, so this may impact you if you have mobility problems.
It was a warm day, and the room was a lot warmer and even with the window open there was no way to cool the room down, no A/C or fan in the room.
The room was small and somewhat cramped and the furniture had seen better days and needed to be replaced in all honesty.
The bathroom was modern and clean and did have some nice smellies in there, however we discovered that there was a major leak under the sink, and this meant water flooded into the drawer in the unit and then onto the floor, we think that had been this way for a while.
Sleep was erratic as we had to leave the window open to keep us cooler, but the noise late at night from the people leaving the night club down the road was so bad. I know the hotel can't be to blame for this but it did impact our sleep and therefore our stay.
We did use the hotel restaurant and the food was good, but service was slow and we wait around 35 minutes for our main course.
Would we stay again - probably not. Well not unless it had a good makeover."
