the House of Binns is a really interesting place due to the beauty of the stately home and the tale of General Tam Dalyell, who formed the legendary regiment of Royal Scots Greys.
There are many mementos of him in the house, as well as colourful legends about his dealings with the Devil to discover.
The legend describes Tam's games of cards with the Devil, although the devil normally beat Tam, one night Tam won, he had placed a mirror behind satan so that he could read his hand and in fury the Devil threw a marble table at him. However, it missed and it landed in the Sergeants' Pond outside. A marble table was indeed found when the pond dried up 200 years later. The cards, goblet and spoon, supposedly used in the game are displayed in the house. The General is said to have told the Devil, who threatened to blow down his house and its walls, that "I will build me a turret at every corner to pin down my walls"

"IBIS was simply amazing!!! The other 6 family members all booked cheaper B&B's around Edinburgh but the South Bridge IBIS was central to everything we wanted to see. Breakfast was fantastic and the service and dinner and evening bar was great! Exactly what we expected after staying with IBIS in Amsterdam on our last family trip. "

"First time to Scotland on a solo trip. I loved it and I loved this hotel. Very comfortable. There was a door next doo that kept slamming over and over and maybe needed to be fixed. Once those people checked out, it was peaceful. Next time I’ll book a castle view but it was really nice. Food was delicious at the hotel. Loved the iced tea and water containers as you walked in. It was a nice touch after a long day of walking. I was also grateful for the button at the desk to call a taxi to Waverly Station. . Very helpful. "
