Wonderful stay in Varzo! Lovely mother and daughter hosts. Delicious homemade breakfast and very comfortable room with a nice view. Right down the hill from San Domenico ski area with excellent scenic hiking. Would recommend Chalet Il Picchio to all!

Whatever you remember about youth hostels, this ain't it. Modern, clean, not cheap (it's Switzerland), and it has a very nice wellness spa for a rather reasonable additional charge. Food is good but not fancy, and staff were extremely helpful. The only glitch was that I booked this stay with OneKeyCash, and hotels.com (i.e., expedia) took my money and gave me a receipt showing no balance due, but then didn't actually pay the hostel! Hello I was very pleased with my stay here. The building architecture is very cool and it is build on the edge of a gorge. The inside of my room was also nice with relatively new and quality fixtures. The buffet breakfast was great as well. Lots of clean and quality options. Most importantly the staff was super helpful with everything. Grand Hotel des Lles Borromees is a wonderfully elegant hotel set lakeside with beautiful grounds and gardens. My wife and I extended our stay from 3 to 5 nights - expensive, but well worth it. We booked the day before and made a mistake entering our email info, so we never received the welcome info. When we arrived we were able to reach help and they very quickly got us the info and got us in. The space was very clean and modern and the location was great. We drove from Munich, Germany for a wedding to Lago Maggiore. Looking for hotels in Stresa, we found out that the prices where not very fair and quite expensive for something nice. Looking through hotels.com we found a brand new hotel which opened only in May 25th and seemed to be very modern and luxusrious with a great value.
