The Stanley Hotel

"We well respect that The Stanley is an historic landmark in a stunning location; spectacular views. It has beautiful gardens, a maze and guided tours. It clearly falls into the category of historic hotels. The hotel participates in the several Estes Park shuttles to downtown and trailheads. Very convenient) My issues are the extensive construction taking place that was noisy, dirty and which compromised beautiful views. (Not on the weekend) We changed our room since we did not want to look out at a construction site. (The staff was very accommodating.) The new room had a very comfortable bed and lots of hot water. Furniture was vintage (as expected)and lighting was rather dim. Parking for hotel guests was very difficult due to the many visitors taking tours of the hotel. The elevator did not work in the Lodge (where we stayed). The housekeeping staff comes every three days yet did not empty the trash nor replenish the coffee Nespressos. The food at The Cascades was disappointing. I am mentioning these issues to inform future guests so that they can come prepared."

"Rooms were clean and worked for what we needed during our stay in Estes. They were dated but that wasn’t a deal breaker. Doors are sliding glass doors which was not expected but again not a deal breaker. We had two rooms and one of the rooms the door was very difficult to slide open but closing was normal & not a challenge. Breakfast was ok, but to be honest we only tried eating it one day. Location was good and was along the river walk as well as free shuttle service within town. Once we parked in the lot after returning from RMNP we were able to walk everywhere though within Estes Park which we really liked."

"Great house for a family of 5. It was close to downtown, spacious, clean and updated. Appreciated the night lights throughout. We enjoyed listening to the river behind the house. Back deck was nice! Wish the listing would have mentioned no A/C since we were there during the hottest week of the year."

"The town home was very clean and comfortable, and the AC worked well. It had essentials for cooking breakfast like salt, pepper, and olive oil. There were two coolers in the garage, and we used one with ice from the kitchen to keep cold drinks in our car for the end of our hikes. The sleeper sofa wasn't the most comfy, but the sofas in the great room are long and quite comfortable. There were only five of us, and one slept on one of those sofas and said it was nice. The place is nicely decorated and very attractive. It was nice having the garage to park in. We would recommend it and may return some day."

"From a space and amenity standpoint, this cabin was lovely, clean, and had everything we needed - even things I wouldn't have expected, like soft-sided coolers and ice packs we could use during the day! Kitchen was great. Awesome to have a washer/dryer and dishwasher. The king bed was very comfortable and it was great to hear the river flowing at night. The proximity to town and the Beaver Meadows park entrance was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this property in general, but there are also a couple things to be aware of depending on your needs - 1) If it is very hot out like it was in Estes during our stay, for some reason the air does not flow well through the cabin despite opening all the windows and turning on all the fans! I am sure this would not usually be an issue, but during a relative "heat wave", we had trouble getting things cool enough to be comfortable inside in the evenings until it got dark out despite opening everything up. 2) If you plan to sleep in or have quiet mornings, this may not be your best fit - due to the businesses across the river, there was a lot of truck backup beepers, a street sweeper, and clanking of a BBQ pit early in the morning. If it's cooler out and you're getting up earlier, those things will likely be no issue for you. 3) We couldn't find a broom for a quick sweep until the last day - didn't realize it was hiding in a closet in the queen bedroom. Other than those minor items, a lovely stay and a recommended property!"
