"Just wanted to say I was not pleased with the service and staff their. I was a solo traveler and was treated like a second class person. Another family was there (five people) and they were treated like kings. I was not invited to a Saturday cook out. I sat on the balcony and all the employee's did not say one word to me but invited the other family. I speak a little Portuguese and from two of the employee's (one black guy and a young girl) said something about the American staying here they did...

"Lovely old building, with lots of character. Admittedly the condition is slightly dated, but is part of the charm! Marianne was very helpful, explaining the local area and arranging a taxi for us. Bedroom very spacious and the pool area overlooking the city is brilliant! Santa Teresa is a cool neighbourhood too. Would recommend. "

"I spent 4 days in this beautiful charming house, and felt home the moment I passed the gate. The house located in the beautiful authentic neighborhood of Santa Teresa is decorated with taste displaying very cozy and clean rooms. A delicious breakfast is served under the trees with a very nice view on the city and I had the chance to see the little monkeys populating Rio while having my morning coffee. The host Matthieu is incredibly welcoming and helpful. I came last minute without organizing...

"I'll get the bad news out of the way first. The location is absolutely stunning - but that is a curse as well as a blessing. Casa Marques is up a long winding road, high into Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa was once the preserve of the rich, in the forested hills looking down on Rio. The beautiful houses are still there, some of them converted into boutique hotels (like this one), but some of the spaces in between have been taken over by the less wealthy, and these favelas give Santa Teresa a...

"Num primeiro momento fiquei meio perdido tentando localizar o hostel, mas depois deu tudo certo. Fui muito bem atendido pelo Yuri no check in e encontrei o quarto limpo e com uma cama confortável. Os outros ambientes são limpos e o café da manhã é simples, mas condiz com o valor da hospedagem. De um modo geral eu adorei a minha hospedagem no Hostel Mambembe!"

"We loved this hotel. A real oasis in the hills away from the amazing hustle and bustle of downtown Rio. Wonderful staff who were very happy to help you out. A lovely restaurant where we celebrated our friend’s birthday. Wonderful balcony room with a slight view of Christ Reedemer. Loved the pool and pool bar, although the cocktail making could do with some attention, and the staff there were slow. Would come back to stay if ever in Rio again. "

"This is my second time staying here. It is clean, pleasant, and reasonably priced. Most appreciate that it is in the touristy area of Santa Teresa and near LAPA. That is nice too. There's also a great view of the center from most rooms. My only minus, which isn't tied to the place, is that if you're out late, it can be difficult to get an uber up into the steep hills of Santa Teresa. Most taxis will though."
