The first segment of track to be rehabilitated following the declaration of the Ecuadorian Railways as a national heritage, the journey from Quito south towards the great colossus of Cotopaxi has been running since 2009. It remains one of the most beautiful and memorable in the country.
The journey begins at the historic train station of Chimbacalle, whose history dates back to when the Guayaquil to Quito railway was finally completed in 1908. Here, amid this friendly neighbourhood – a mix of residential homes and businesses – the train sets off for its route southwards along the famous ‘Avenue of the Volcanoes’, thus named by the great Prussian explorer, Alexander Von Humboldt.

"I did not like the area. I did not like that the doors were always closed, that there was a slight gap in the blinds so people could look into my room. It took the lady an hour to find my reservation. There was always loud music playing late at night and sometimes the owner’s kid would cry a lot."

"Darwin is a great host. He and his mom cooked us a great dinner and were very nice."

"The views from the dining area were amazing, both at night and in the morning."

"The location was good but the hotel is in need of repair and a maintenance. The bathroom walls and floor were filthy. The building is historical but regular cleaning and maintenance would improve the venue. I would not recommend this hotel as there are several others in the area that are superior and at the same cost."
