Mark Spencer Hotel

6/10 Okay

"We chose this hotel for its convenient location within walking distance of a concert hall, restaurants, and shops, and importantly, for its self-parking option. Self-parking in downtown is surprisingly hard to find, so that was a big plus. The hotel is older and on the smaller side, but well maintained. The one area that could use more attention is the edges of the walls and glass doors in the bathroom, which needed a more thorough cleaning. One unexpected surprise: there is no in-room coffee unless you request it. Worth knowing before you arrive. Our reservation was for two adults and a 15-year-old child, and all three of us checked in together. The sofa bed bedding was not in the room, and when we called the front desk, we were told we should have requested it at check-in. Our child is 15 and taller than both parents, so it should have been clear that three people cannot share a king bed. Having the sofa bed bedding already in the room, or simply asking at check-in, would go a long way in making guests feel well taken care of. It does not hurt to ask."

"The room was good, and I liked the fact that the sink is outside the washroom. Hotel location is near the airport but is not walkable to other places, such as shops and restaurants. Most places are about a mile away. Breakfast was really robust with scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes and French toast. There were also lots of cold items - a great selection of everything."

"When we got to the suites, we were a little disappointed on the age of the carpeting and the decor, but that would be OK. I was checking in at the front desk and I asked the attendant for a luggage cart as we had a full SUV he allowed another party of people that was behind us to stay at the counter listening to the details of my phone number, etc., and when I mention the cart and asked him to go retrieve one, the party behind us bolted for the hallway and retrieve the only cart available so let's just say we checked in on Friday, May 29 very pissed off. One for privacy and two for the request and allowing someone whom did not check in yet retrieve the cart we left left a day early paid for the final day Sunday and the attendant asked me if I was retrieving a refund from the third-party which would be Expedia I didn't think I could so I told her and discussed just check me out but my wife and I made the best of it amongst ourselves visited with friends and family. We intended to stay one more day but because of the bad taste in my mouth, we decided not to this was a personal choice. We get one vacation a year, so we're pretty much grunts and can make the best of things. Would we stay again don't know."

"I had a great stay and really appreciated the hospitality of the staff. As an Expedia Gold member, I was upgraded, which made my stay even more enjoyable. My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained throughout my visit. What stood out most was the housekeeping service. At check-in, I was asked about my room cleaning preferences, so I never had to call every day to request service. On one occasion, I called the front desk around 5 PM to ask about having my room cleaned, and they took care of it right away. The staff was friendly, responsive, and accommodating throughout my stay. Thank you for the excellent service—I would happily stay here again."
