"I had a wonderful stay at Macalister Terrace Hotel. The hotel is very comfortable, clean, and has a really nice ambience that made the stay relaxing and enjoyable. "The hotel is superb! The beds were comfortable and the rooms were nice and clean. The staff was very helpful as well. I only have positive things to say about the hotel. The location is the only thing I didn’t like. This was our first time to Penang and this part of the city is not walking friendly at all. Very dangerous between the lack of sidewalks and 1 foot wide by 2 feet deep drainage that is along the sidewalks. Be very careful walking here or take a grab to places you need to go to."

"This was a wonderful surprise. Location was a little outside the central hub but 10 min walk isn't far. The room was amazing, clean and fresh. Gives a boutique vibe. The minibar is free and the room service was super affordable. The pool was lovely great views for sunset. Absolutely loved my stay here"

"This hotel lost any hope of me ever returning when they refused to accept cash to pay the $6.00 myr "Heritage Tax" at check in. They have decided to completely remove the option for guests to use cash. It is very, very disappointing to not be given the full choice of payment options. Cash is still legal tender and this hotel needs to provide ALL payments to guests. Eventually the female clerk very begrudgingly accepted my cash. I've been traveling full time for 12 years and have never been refused to accept a payment in cash, not even in China when I was there for a month last year. My credit cards have been compromised many time over the years so, the less I use them for such nominal amounts, the more secure my cards are. Hence the reason I book my hotels online and pay through the booking sites."

"This was a first visit for our family- we spent 2 nights here and had booked 3 rooms in all. The location is excellent and we loved the fact that the hotel is directly opposite the Gurney Bay park- beautiful stretch of beach front and a promenade/boardwalk for walking. The property itself looks majestic from the outside and the common areas. The rooms were a little outdated; the carpets could do with an update as there was a musky smell all around. The toilets weren't flushing well- just an older property. The Buffet breakfast was decent and had a variety of food items. However, the service staff weren't welcoming. We had similar experience with a front desk staff as well. The complimentary pop and water bottles in the room were appreciated and a nice touch."
