"We did not receive any check in instructions by 2pm on day of stay. Called host to ask for them. On the call the host said the stay was not available and cancelled. If we didn’t call to ask for the check in instructions we wouldn’t even have known. They didn’t have the courtesy to tell us in advance. We were in the area for a wedding so we needed a place to stay overnight regardless. "The house was a good size but very tired and scruffy. Given the price, the furnishings should be in better shape...curtains half hanging off the rail, no shower curtain in the downstairs and master bath, and sofas that were old and needed replacing. The garden didn't look like it had been attended to for years. The check-in communication was not well-coordinated within the booking team. This could be a beautiful property if given the love and care needed."

"We have had a wonderful stay at The Old Rectory, beautiful house with wonderful facilities and the pool was amazing. Staff are all knowledgeable about local history and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the main hotel which was lovely and again we felt so well looked after. We highly recommend Hartwell House, beautiful old buildings with so much character and the grounds are spectacular. Thank you and hope we are lucky enough to return again. "
