"This is our second time at this location. Our room was cleaned daily, water and beverages in our room was re stocked. Food was fresh and delicious. The staff does a good job maintaining the seaweed that comes ashore during this time of year. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will come again."

"My experience at Riu Palace Riviera Maya was extremely disappointing and did not meet expectations. The food quality was consistently poor. Most meals were bland or unappetizing, and we found ourselves skipping meals throughout our stay. Breakfast was the only acceptable option, though still average. We upgraded to the “Elite” level expecting an enhanced experience; however, the only noticeable benefit was access to higher-quality liquor. The designated “Elite” pool lacked food service, entertainment, and overall atmosphere, while the standard pool offered a much more engaging experience. This discrepancy made the upgrade feel unjustified. The beach conditions were also subpar, with significant amounts of seaweed that appeared to be minimally maintained by the resort. Additionally, pricing and service issues further impacted our stay. When inquiring about extending one night, we were quoted $1,000—equivalent to the cost of our five-night stay. After booking externally, a minor reservation error (one guest instead of two) resulted in a proposed $600 charge to add a second person. Resolving this took approximately four hours. During this time, front desk staff displayed unprofessional behavior, including laughing and pointing, which was inappropriate. Overall, this resort did not provide the quality or service expected. I would not recommend staying here."

"Riu Lupita was boring and very quiet, with mostly older guests and no real vibe. As a person of color, I didn’t see any diversity, which felt uncomfortable. The resort felt outdated and low budget you definitely get what you pay for. I switched resorts after one day because staying longer would’ve ruined my trip."

"The staff were generally friendly, but there weren’t enough of them. Many times, stations were understaffed or not staffed at all. The pools were not very clean and were too warm for my taste, although my son didn’t mind. The beach is beautiful and spacious. We visited during seaweed season, which was disappointing. They do try to clean it, but it’s a Sisyphean task—it’s very hard to keep up. The food was very mediocre, including at the Italian restaurant. The Mexican restaurant was better, but unfortunately two of us ate something there that caused severe food poisoning and cost us an entire day of our vacation to recover. We reported it, but the response felt like a dismissal of responsibility. Overall, you get reasonable value for the price. We did appreciate that it’s a smaller resort rather than one of the huge complexes, and it was nice that it’s built within a jungle setting rather than as one large building."
