"This grand old pub was beautifully refurbished just over a year ago, with William Morris decor apparent everywhere. We were particularly impressed by the young staff who work hard. We were greeted warmly by Ryan who was a stand-out team member that seems to spend most of his life in the pub. Our room was stylish and immaculately clean on our arrival. There was a fantastic community feel to the place and a number of locals chatted with us. The experience was completed by good food and well-kept beer. The daily cleaning team were fab and fussed around us delightfully to ensure we had everything we needed. Defined protocols for daily bedroom cleaning would help - we returned on some days to find that some bins had been emptied and not others, and our bed was not re-made during our stay. Better quality bed linen would also enhance the experience. All-in-all the Pencelli Arms is a real gem in the Welsh Valleys. Now that we have relatives in the area, we will be back!"

"Really comfy bed and room which was immaculate including a little note from housekeeping saying enjoy your stay! A lovely touch! Breakfast and my evening meal were absolutely delicious . All staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mention to the chef (with the jack russell puppy) who made the most amazing breakfast! The shower was powerful and the toiletries provided were of great quality."

"Room fantastic. Location fantastic if you like remote. The owner, brilliant, knew his stuff and local places to entertain the kids. Only slight criticism would be a bit more breakfast stuff, but I do have fussy kids. Doesn’t need a cooked breakfast but maybe a cheese/cold meat selection or a boiled egg maker could go down well. If ever in wales again, would 100% stay here. Thank you."

The Sleeping Giant - Pen Y Cae Inn

"Suite 2. Good location - next to a nice pub and another a couple of mins down the road. Good access to waterfalls and mountains. Rooms are nice, aircon, large tv, clean. Downsides - shower head was massive and came out so lightly, bed was slightly dipped in the middle and parking was all taken around our side. Staff lovely and the bacon baguettes for breakfast great."
