"Four of us stayed for one night only at Gion Ryokan Karaku ( half board) The Kaiseki dinner was amazing! Beautiful presentation of food and staff were very attentive. The location of Gion Ryokan Karaku is very central. Just a couple of minutes away from Yatasa Shrine and an easy 15 minutes walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple. We would recommend this Ryokan to anyone who enjoys good food and service "

"Gorgeous traditional Ryoken. Problem at check-in almost ruined it but we worked it out. You check in and receive a cotton kimono, toe socks and slippers. Everyone floats around like it’s ancient Japan. The rooms are lovely and spacious for Japan. The onsen is like an excellent spa! "This is a rather old hotel and we had to lay our futon every night. There’s no private shower so we had to take our showers in the public bath area. The staff couldn’t not speak English but the Manager gave us excellent service. He was kind and helpful. He also drove us to the pier to catch the boat to amanohashidate station. "

The public bath was clean and was not busy during our stay. The area was close to a train station which was helpful in getting around Kyoto. The real highlight was how attentive the staff were to our needs and how kind they all were. We loved the uniqueness of the property and were very glad we stayed. "

"This was our first stay at a rhyokan (spelling!)and we were blown away by the beauty, The comfort (personally I felt sleeping on tatami mats on a futon perfect). The attentive service was welcoming and spot on. We ate breakfast and dinner here and the local food was abundant, gorgeously presented and flavorful. We had a room with a private Onsen on a deck. Highly recommend. This was a unique, peak experience and I am a seasoned traveler. Do it. "

"This is a traditional ryokan, and my second stay. First time was back in 2016 by myself. This time came here to stay with my wife. Bery friendly staff. I had a much better experience first time around, two ladies came and showed me how to change into a yukata and prepared my bed. Everything was more personal, this time they were a little busy. Too many guests. Still amazing experience. You can reserve the onsen for yourself privately. The dinner experience is a little expensive but worth it. "
