"Four of us stayed for one night only at Gion Ryokan Karaku ( half board) The Kaiseki dinner was amazing! Beautiful presentation of food and staff were very attentive. The location of Gion Ryokan Karaku is very central. Just a couple of minutes away from Yatasa Shrine and an easy 15 minutes walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple. We would recommend this Ryokan to anyone who enjoys good food and service "

"Gorgeous traditional Ryoken. Problem at check-in almost ruined it but we worked it out. You check in and receive a cotton kimono, toe socks and slippers. Everyone floats around like it’s ancient Japan. The rooms are lovely and spacious for Japan. The onsen is like an excellent spa! "I can't explain enough how much we enjoyed our stay here. The staff was super courteous and spoke very good English. The location is gorgeous and quiet and the hotel runs a shuttle to and from the nearest rail station several times a day if you want to get into Kyoto proper. That said, it's likely to take an hour to get to Kyoto by shuttle/train or 30 minutes if you take a rather expensive taxi. Plan accordingly! I think we would visit again. "

"This is a traditional ryokan, and my second stay. First time was back in 2016 by myself. This time came here to stay with my wife. Bery friendly staff. I had a much better experience first time around, two ladies came and showed me how to change into a yukata and prepared my bed. Everything was more personal, this time they were a little busy. Too many guests. Still amazing experience. You can reserve the onsen for yourself privately. The dinner experience is a little expensive but worth it. "

"Awesome Onsen. Quick check in. The two open air mineral baths were clean, comfortable and relaxing. The one with the huge lava rocks, natural greenery and small waterfall on the 5th floor was my favorite.
