We seldom stay on property when we travel, choosing to venture out and explore. This trip, our plans were different. We just needed to chill and weā€™re so happy we chose The Viceroy to do so. The property is incredible. The villas are private and intimate. Natural vibes all around. But two specific things were just outstanding and noteworthy. Firstly, the food. Everything we ate was remarkable. Like trying to deconstruct the ingredients so we could cook it at home remarkable. In four days of meals there wasnā€™t a single thing we ate, or sipped, that wasnā€™t delicious. But above all was the service. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and so attentive that it elevated our experience beyond our expectations. We felt the love. 10/10. Weā€™ll be back again.

The setting is tranquil, the villas are well designed, very large, and private. The staff are incredibly attentive, polite, personalble, intuitive, professional and take pride in what they do. This was a one week getaway for my wife and I to celebrate her birthday and generally unwind. This is our 8th time to the area and our taste has evolved from the big resorts that cater to everyone to the small boutique resorts such as Viceroy. We appreciate the personal attention we received by all, from Alberto's welcome upon arrival, to Christina and her teams perfection in the kitchen, to sommelier Carlos(1)' expertise, with waiters Pablo & Carlos(2)' attention (honorable mention to Mario) in the main dining restaurant "La Marea". Abner, Victor, Jesus, and Fransisco were spot on in the "Coral Restarurant & Bar". Jose, Juan, and Pepe were kickin' it poolside with snack, lounger, sunglass, chilled towel, and drink service. We'll not soon forget the salsa dance lessons put together by Alberto & Carla just for my wife on her birthday, from a simple mention my wife made to Pablo and Carlos a day prior. I don't know how we're going top this one... perhaps only by a second visit.

I just got home from Viceroy last night - I loved the quiet atmosphere of the resort, but at times it seemed too quiet. Iā€™m not sure if it was the time of year I went, but there was at most 3 other people out at the pool/beach. It was raining off and on, so maybe thatā€™s why too. Otherwise, the service and staff were amazing and went above and beyond every single interaction. The walking distance from my room to the common areas was not bad at all and the hotel has many umbrella stations around for when it is raining. There are a lot of animals, granted it is in the jungle, but there were multiple around the plunge pool, very frequently throughout the day. The food and drinks were okay, not bad, but I have had better at other resorts. Overall, I would go back, but maybe a different time of year with (hopefully) better weather since it rained literally every day of my stay.

The grounds are beautiful and our room couldn't have been better. The private plunge pool and outdoor shower were so relaxing. We stayed 8 days and had all meals but one at Viceroy - the food was fabulous. The beach is beautiful but rocky at the shore line. The staff and service are first rate. Every request was taken care of immediately! Playa Del Carme in an easy 15 cab ride away with lots to see. Many excursions are available but we came to just take it easy and didn't try any. I HIGHLY recommend Viceroy and hope to go back.

Great place to stay if you are looking for something quiet and relaxing. The private pool villas are awesome and perfect for a romantic get away. Lots of wildlife to see on the property being set in the jungle. Staff was very professional. Came here in September 2022 for reference and the main drawback is that the beach is not good for swimming due to an abundance of rocks. Food and drinks were very good but could use a little more variety in the breakfast menu. I did some spearfishing in front of the property and the kitchen cooked the lobsters, octopus and fish I caught which was prepared wonderfully. Not a great spot for the family, but I would definitely recommend this place for couple looking for a romantic escape.

I just returned from my stay at the Viceroy Playa Del Carmen. There is a lot to potentially like about this property. The staff in the restaurants and bar/pool area are probably some of the best Iā€™ve ever experienced. The property is lush and we did massage treatments at the spa and they were outstanding. Now, for the bad - rats in my room - simply unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Really at any level. Crawling through the thatched roof and visible for brief moments after dark. I called and requested help, the hotel responded - they said theyā€™d send someone, the problem seemed to abate for a night but then returned. I was only there for 5 nights and 2 out of 5 were heavily disrupted, the first 2 nights being ones where I didnā€™t really know what was going on. Really terrible experience - tough to sleep with that going on in your room. hotel staff did nothing to help the issue that had any permanence - it seemed like they may have put something outside the room that made noise to scare them away and then once that was removed, the problem came right back. They werenā€™t willing to relocate me. Front desk staff were pretty indifferent about everything. No way can I recommend the Viceroy to anyone who wants any sort of relaxation on vacation. I feel like I was robbed of the price I paid. Transportation arranged by the airport was low caliber with cars that had bad suspension and visible accident damage. Not worth it - taxis are easy to come by in playa.

Very dark rooms. Inadequate lighting on the casitas, as you go outside and all over the property. Hard to see steps and I fell. Waiters got something wrong with every order.

The Viceroy itself is stunning and the staff was attentiveā€”no complaints there. However, several aspects made this trip less enjoyable for us, though others may feel differently. 1. Inflated Prices Pricing was extremeā€”a small bottle of water was $20. Without the all-inclusive plan, food and beverage costs felt unjustifiable. Menu options were limited and lacked flavor. 2. Noise from Nearby Properties While not within Viceroyā€™s control, loud parties from a neighboring resort disrupted our nights. The music was intense enough to shake the wallsā€”challenging for those seeking a peaceful escape. 3. Area Atmosphere We expected a refined experience south of Cancun but found the vibe across the region geared more toward spring-break energy. It felt misaligned with our expectations. 4. Seaweed and Beach Conditions The beach was unusable due to heavy seaweed during our visit (Marchā€“October season). Swimming wasnā€™t an option, limiting us to the pool. 5. Lack of Local Alternatives Renting a car didnā€™t help. The surrounding area felt neglectedā€”dusty streets, unpleasant odors, and nowhere comfortable to walk or dine. The beach was narrow and crowded. Bottom Line: The resort is lovely, but the environment around it made the experience fall short. If youā€™re looking for quiet luxury, better dining variety, and swimmable beaches, this may not be the best choice.

Service was EXCELLENT. We arrived to CancĆŗn realizing our checked bag had been robbed of some sentimental and valuable items. The Viceroy staff set our trip back on the right trajectory and then some. The resort is intimate, tractable, and most of allā€¦ relaxing. It was exactly what we needed to start our trip. We were sad to leave. Highly recommend!
