There isn’t much to do nearby, so it’s really a place to relax, enjoy the onsen, eat, sleep, read, and unwind. I highly recommend booking the half-board option since there are very few dining choices outside the hotel. We had a room with a private bath, which was wonderful. However, the bedroom was upstairs, and I didn’t feel very safe using the stairs at night. I wouldn’t recommend this type of room for families with young children or anyone with mobility concerns. What a gem! We stayed at Ishinoya after our 4 days of non-stop walking and touring Tokyo and before another 3 manic days of touring Kyoto. It was such a needed reprieve! I wish we could have stayed one more night before heading home. We booked the room with a private tub, but I tried the public bath very early one morning when it was empty. It was just pure bliss!
