"It was a delightful hotel with character. Room was a very good size and the food was very good. All staff were very helpful. Good swimming pool and sauna."

"Beautifully decorated space, both mindful of the past but also keeping the comfort of guests very much in mind."

"The period furnishings and decor in the lounges were very impressive. Some areas of the property are looking a little tired, but the Cally Palace have an abundance of excellent staff. They were all so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them - definitely 5* staff. We had a lovely large bedroom, with great views at the rear. We had four evening meals in the dining room which were really good and the Cullen skink was excellent. Cally Palace was a great base for our four day...

"Friendly and helpful staff and excellent food in restaurant. Nice Lochside location. Great location for visiting the nearby Dumfries House a short drive away."

"The Portpatrick Hotel never fails to disappoint. The location is wonderful but the hotel itself is poor, poorly maintained and no attention to detail by housekeeping when preparing rooms, with empty soap dispensers in the bathroom. The hotel just seems neglected, badly managed and understaffed by people who have little or no training in hospitality. At best the breakfast was disappointing, the hot food in the buffet was edible, but the presentation and other items sadly lacking."

"We are here for a real quick stop. Easy location on and off the highway."

"Room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good with excellent coffee"

"Pet friendly, however despite telling them beforehand we were bringing a dog they reallocated our room when they noticed we had in fact bought one with us."

"Friendly helpful staff, clean room slightly tired, excellent breakfast with quality sausages and bacon! Friday and Saturday nights can be quite loud outside the hotel being a city centre location."

"We were married here 18 years ago… the place has not changed. It needs a lot of investment. The smell around the hotel was awful to the point we actually held our breath going into the foyer for the lift. It’s such a pity. The grounds are beautiful but it has not been maintained to a high standard. We truly we very disappointed and didn’t think it was worth the money. This is a 2* hotel at best. We had considered coming back for a family gathering in a couple of years to celebrate our 20th...
