"Sadly the first room had scaffolding at the window due to works. The bathroom only had a bath. Staff quickly offered me another room which had a shower and more space. The rooms are a little dated. Lovely hotel. Staff very friendly. Evening meal was good but breakfast was a-bit of a let down. Would return."

"Really lovely hotel, beautifully decorated and very comfortable rooms and beds with a fantastic, powerful shower. Lots of lovely small touches like fresh milk and cookies in the room. We were on the front facing the road and it was very quiet at night even with the window open, no road noise at all. Very good breakfast and we also had supper there which was delicious, I would go back just to eat there. Staff were incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. Free entry to Raby Castle and High Force waterfall were included, we went to both and they are so worth a visit. Overall a brilliant stay, would absolutely go back, it was a real treat to stay at the hotel and fantastic value."

"Stopped for just the 1 night to break up the journey back to Scotland. Room was clean and well appointed. Decided to eat there which turned out to be a good choice. Only ordered a couple of starters to share and a loaded fries each. Starters were spot on especially the Bao buns which were really tasty. Neither of us could finish our loaded fries as the portions were more than generous. Staff were really friendly. Breakfast in the morning was also good quality and set us up for the journey home. Would definitely return."

"This was a charming place to stay. There were sheep in the field outside our window. There were cookies and tea things in our room. There was a nice common room/library with lots of maps and guide books. We had a delicious full Scottish breakfast in the morning. We'd love to stay there again!"
