"Spa was lovely. Having an option for private onsen (not inside the room) was great. Property was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed regulated r access to non-alcoholic drinks. The eco clean option was smart for those of us who don’t want room cleaning during our stays. Walkable to bus and train, but high grade hills to climb on your way home, which were no problem for us. Breakfast was plentiful, traditional and elaborate. "

"I think the hotel was not as good as we expected. We arrived tired -after a wedding in Tokyo - and the check in staff grill you with so many questions “what time for dinner” (but there are limited options so you don’t have much choice), “what time for breakfast tomorrow”, same thing for the following days … they even asked “what time do you want housekeeping tomorrow?”! And then they said they had a spa - I said I’d like a massage and they said they were all booked for our dates! But no one had communicated with me in advance to offer massage services so I could book. Also the dinner both nights repeated “Main Meal 1” (their term) -despite the affectation of being so custom. Finally as we checked out we found someone’s socks in the drawer behind the safe deposit box! "

"A fantastic stay overall at Gora Kadan. Our room was impeccable with a lovely balcony that featured a small Japanese garden. The room assistant was attentive and helpful. The kaiseki meals were presented in lovely dishes with sophisticated design, were tasty and quite elaborate, each meal was truly a feast for the eyes and taste buds. Each meal was a true feast for the senses and the taste buds. The onsen was just the perfect size. We are already planning our next trip to Gora Kadan with more family members. There is so much to do in Gora and beyond, especially around lake Ashinoko. "

"Included breakfast selection is limited but quite good ... lineup and waiting period for unreservable breakfast was disappointing. Dinner dining times are too short ... but dinner choices are decent."

"The staff are very polite. The room was very clean. The onsen/public bath was relaxing and we were lucky enough to have it be empty every time we used it. The breakfast is basic (pastries, yogurt, tea/coffee/juice) but does the job. We were also given free passes to the Yussen onsen less than 10min walk away and was a highlight of the stay. "

Meals were wonderful and staff very helpful. If the hill up to the property is a problem, we found taking a taxi or uber very easy and cheap. Highly recommend!"
