"Good experience to stay in traditional Japanese house.clean and kitchen well equipped. Washing machine was convenient. Due to it being an older building, insulation isn’t very good and gets very cold in the winter and need heaters in all rooms. Location is not great as it is walking distance to most places. Bus stop 7 minute walk. Could have provided more furniture such as chairs. Overall nice experience besides being on the cold side."

"The house and concept is great though there are a few things to note before booking. It's very spacious. Use of kitchen and laundry is a bonus. Well heated. The bathroom is accessed by going outside and you can see right through so make sure the curtains in the main house are closed if you are with friends or family (no privacy possible from bathroom side). "Very nice traditional house. Very clean. The host is very friendly and accommodating. However this house is best suited for 4 people or less, not for 6 people nor people that has problem going up steep stairs as the two bedrooms are upstairs. Also, with only 1 shower it is not convenient for 6 people that wanted to shower. The other two people had to find another place to stay since it was super cramped."

"We wanted to stay in a traditional house that could sleep two couples and this was a great experience. I think if you had little familiarity with Japan and/or Kyoto, it would be a bit hard to find. The neighborhood was not hard to navigate, but it was a good ten minute walk to the busy part of shijo-dori. We arrived very late in the evening but had no trouble. "We travelled as a family of 4 with 2 young adults. They thought it was real cool place. It had authentic character and we liked the tatami rooms and mats. We also liked that we had the place to ourselves. It felt liked we lived in Kyoto and walked in the back alley to our home. It was great to have more space than a hotel room. Good quiet central location and close to transit and those popular convenience stores. The experience here was memorable as much as sight seeing in Kyoto. Enjoyable!"

"This was a great place to stay if you like off the beaten path, the Nijo Castle was right next to it. Because it was off the beaten path, eateries/stores were not as convenient but there were still accessible just not as plentiful if staying in the city. The only downside to say was the towels were few and small with no where to hang, other than that it was great value for you dollar."

"Special experience in a traditional-style machiya house. Loved the bath and staying on the Japanese style bed (you can ask the staff to set up the western or Japanese style bed before you check in). It was a beautiful and peaceful retreat. The laundry both washes and dries—such a convenience!"
