Hulili Tropical Fruit Farm - Pineapple Cottage

"Pineapple cottage was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the foothills of Hawaii. Perched high up on hillside you look over the fruit trees and expansive manicured grounds, then to the surrounding forest and out to the ocean. What a view! The cottage is very private, clean, and good kitchen facilities. Just grocery shop in Hilo and you’re all set. On the porch set back in a nice rocking chair and enjoy the show. 3 or 4 little geckos will wait patiently until you provide crumbs of food or a tiny slice of orange. They have a sweet tooth so cookie crumbs or a drop of honey will draw them in. Then there are the birds. Song birds are always present in small groups and fill the air with pleasant chirping. Other larger birds arrive in small flocks and settle onto the large grassy areas and search for insects or something. In the evening little frogs chime in the distance. Very nice.Pineapple cottage is well positioned for day excursions. Visit a nearby waterfall. There are at least three zip line companies, scenic drives, and back in Hilo the farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday. Also, good restaurants for lunch or a dinner out.If you enjoy science, our longest drive was a little over an hour up to the observatory visitor center. It’s chilly up there so layer up with a sweatshirt, jacket, or sweater. It was raining the day we went but at an elevation of 9000 feet we broke through the clouds. Bright and sunny with a beautiful rainbow.I’ve runout for review space, bye"

"Stayed in the cabin. It was comfortable and clean. Nice view of the ocean. The staff was helpful. It would have been better if there were instruction on how to use some of the amenities."

"Gorgeous setting and a nicely appointed house - had everything we needed! Communication through text/email for the check-in process was very straightforward. Our kids had a blast playing in the waterfall and sleeping in the loft. The stargazing is AMAZING if you get a clear night. This was a perfect, peaceful home base for exploring the Hilo side of the Big Island!"

"The whole experience was awesome. Some major points:1. The view is awesome. House is on 3 acres and you have a view of the ocean. You can watch cruise ships go by. No other neighbors to contend with. Peaceful. Sound of a running stream. Lots of Hawaiian forest surrounds the other sides.2. The house is exceptional. Two 360 degree decks that surround the house (upper and lower). Great shade and a constant breeze of clean air. Many outdoor chairs and lounges to recline on. Wonderful place to read a book. I did not watch TV for 2 weeks (but there is one).3. Upstairs is a large living room and a well equipped kitchen. Lots of windows to open and let the breeze come in. The house is about 1500 feet above sea level so the temperature is almost always perfect - probably about 6-8 degrees cooler than Hilo.. There is also 1 bedroom and a bath.4. On the occasional clear night the sky is magnificent. No nearby lights to detract from it.5. Downstairs the 2 bedrooms and 2 baths are large and comfortable. Again, lots of windows to let the breeze in.6. I want to live here. Planning on coming back."

"We loved our second stay in this house. The view is one-of-a-kind, and the house is such a beautiful gem. We love the coquis at night, the stars and enjoying the humid air of Hawaii. Honoka’a is a nice town, and the Waipi’o Fruit Shack is right down the road. You’ll probably be visiting Waimea (30 minutes) or across the island to Mauna Lani, etc. (1 ro 1.25 hours), but the longer drive is still worth it for staying in such a lovely house. You’ll have a wonderful experience!"
