"The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was really clean with a corner bath and large walk in shower. We had a large sitting room also. There was a cute little courtyard outside with a couple of tables and chairs. The staff were friendly and we had a delicious breakfast in the morning."

"It was a delightful hotel with character. Room was a very good size and the food was very good. All staff were very helpful. Good swimming pool and sauna."

"Clean room"

"We had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and both the rooms and communal seating areas were clean and well maintained."

"Friendly and helpful staff and excellent food in restaurant. Nice Lochside location. Great location for visiting the nearby Dumfries House a short drive away."

"The Portpatrick Hotel never fails to disappoint. The location is wonderful but the hotel itself is poor, poorly maintained and no attention to detail by housekeeping when preparing rooms, with empty soap dispensers in the bathroom. The hotel just seems neglected, badly managed and understaffed by people who have little or no training in hospitality. At best the breakfast was disappointing, the hot food in the buffet was edible, but the presentation and other items sadly lacking."

"This is a tale of two halves… We had booked for a deluxe family suite, that had been modernised and had two separate rooms. Unfortunately we arrived to find that our room was unavailable, due to a leak (awful Scottish weather) and they offered us either a deluxe family room (two doubles) or two adjoining rooms in the dated part of the hotel (the forest wing), which we opted for. Although it hadn’t seen a lick of paint or new furniture in decades, it was exceptionally clean and had everything we...

"Unfortunately this was very poor. When I arrived in my room after 8pm the balcony door was wide open, on a chilly windy October evening - so the room was cold with insects flying around from the neighbouring lake. The TV did not have any channels working, and when I went to reception to ask about this and the door being left open I was told ‘this is all out of our hands’ with no offer of alternative room or reduction in the price - given they advertised 22 channels on being available this is...

"Comfortable room with nice shower room and spotlessly clean. Tasty food and excellent service in the restaurant. Right on the seafront with lots of parking"

"Room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good with excellent coffee"

"We are here for a real quick stop. Easy location on and off the highway."

"Friendly helpful staff, clean room slightly tired, excellent breakfast with quality sausages and bacon! Friday and Saturday nights can be quite loud outside the hotel being a city centre location."

"Perfect for a one night stay, comfortable and clean room and easy parking. Limited menu for evening meal but reasonably priced and tasty. It seemed a little odd not offering a breakfast but was not a problem for us as we went elsewhere. Would stay again if travelling to Scotland."

"We booked a family room"

"Beautiful property and lovely staff. Room was comfy with all necessary amenities. The breakfast was very good and the pub was great!"
