"Spent four days at Gagakuan, satisfied, although unexpected cold weather even in spring. Late sakura blooming, still managed to view some. Did not follow tour, rather venture on our own. Visited places of interest but unable to cover all due to insufficient time, maybe next time would to come again. "

"Good experience to stay in traditional Japanese house.clean and kitchen well equipped. Washing machine was convenient. Due to it being an older building, insulation isn’t very good and gets very cold in the winter and need heaters in all rooms. Location is not great as it is walking distance to most places. Bus stop 7 minute walk. Could have provided more furniture such as chairs. Overall nice experience besides being on the cold side."

"The room was bigger than expected, with a coffemaker. It was nice to have high ceiling in the room. The location was very convenient, close to a JR train station and close to a supermarket. Also close to a public bath (sento). It was quiet at night, we had a good sleep. Very friendly staff. Also liked the bread and jams in the morning. Would stay there again!"

"The machiya was fantastic!! Great location!! Very clean and had all the amenities we wanted! Upstairs room with Western beds was spacious and beautiful! The boys loved the futons downstairs for a true traditional Japanese experience. "

"Good hotel for the price paid. Staff are nice and helpful. Subway is right outside of the hotel. Convenient location to food, shopping and attractions. Didn't try breakfast in the hotel because of the food. lack of ventilation in basement where breakfast and laundry at the same floor. Laundry machines were dated and didn't clean/dry properly. "

"Very close to the Kyoto station and they have a shuttle service to and from the station which was immensely helpful! The staff was super friendly and the concierge even gave us advice where to go for sightseeing. The furniture in the room is a little dated but that wasn't a big deal for me. Would definitely recommend. "
