"It was lovely. The food and private in-suite onsen were all incredible, and the service was also top-notch. Also of note, the beds were particularly comfy."
"The room was clean and spacious. The staffs were friendly. The food was delicious. I would definitely go back♨️. You must like Japanese food, though."
"Exceptional service and facility.
A bit outside of Hakone but a great location for folks who need to stay away from the city and people. The small town/ Sengokuhara is also great - a ton of museums and good restaurants. All walking distance. "

Suiun
10/10 Excellent
"A beautiful ryokan with exceptional service.
Our family group of six (four adult children) stayed three nights half board in two Japanese Western Style Quad rooms, very large accommodation by Japanese standards with two x two-bed separate sleeping areas in each plus a living area.
Food was delicious, particularly at dinner, with cheap reasonable wine and good beers. Meals are served in private areas commensurate with your group size. Our group of six had a brilliant private room.
The lounge area downstairs is open bar with ramen served each night at 10pm.
Staff were always polite and attentive, we had a wonderful waitress one night called Mochizuki who was a delight.
You are a fairly steep uphill 5 -7 minute walk from Gora station (which we happily did many times) or you can take the cable car from Gora station for one stop and you are outside the front door.
Could not recommend Suiun more highly (this is our third ryokan over the years).
ps: if vegan is your thing, best to stay close to the inner city suburbs of Melbourne or L.A. This is rural, traditional Japan and not for you.

"This property is absolutely incredible. The view alone is so soothing, but the highlight - hands down
— is the hot spring bath (onsen). Please, do not miss it. Yes, you have to go in naked, but it's truly worth getting over any Western discomfort. The experience is surreal.
They alternate floors daily between men and women, so you get to enjoy both the waterfall view and mountain view. And when I say waterfall view, I mean you are literally at the foot of a waterfall — it's breathtaking.
Everything about the bath experience is 5 stars: the variety of hot and cold pools, the traditional Japanese showers, and the gorgeous vanity areas stocked with every skincare product you could ever need.
Guests are also encouraged to wear traditional Japanese robes (yukata) during their stay, which instantly sets the tone and puts you in a peaceful, zen-like state.
Pro tip: Book the dinner buffet in advance along with your room — it's half the price compared to purchasing it on-site. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent, with a wide and delicious variety.
Guests staying at TenYu also get free access to the amusement park and water park in the adjacent hotel, connected by a tunnel. It's perfect for families! Although there's a full pool and water park, my kids surprisingly preferred the serenity of the hot springs. It was all so enjoyable that our 2-night stay magically extended to 3 and we’re coming back tmw to end our month trip with 3 more days there."
"Our stay was amazing! We loved having the private onsen since was have a lot of tattoos, the was Japanese dinner was the best food we had our whole two weeks in Japan. The staff was so friendly, professional and extremely helpful. We would love to come back as soon as we can!"
"Lovely staff and wonderfully calming property. Appreciate that it retained it's historical charm and interesting to see the Japanese and western/colonial influence. Private transportation was also provided for any short treks. Very thoughtful. "
"We nooked 3 rooms with private onsen for our family trip. The room was beautiful and relaxing. The bed and pillows were a bit hard for my taste, but we were so relaxed after the bath that we slept well.
The included dinner was amazing with delicious, beautifully presented plates. The morning breakfast was buffet style with a variety of foods to choose.
Many of the staff spoke English and they were all accommodating and friendly "
"This place is fantastic! The staff is super friendly, the food and drink on site is very good quality and extremely reasonably priced. Best of all, Onsen is so relaxing and wonderful. My family (including girls 10 and 12) loved our stay here. I’m not sure why this is called a hostel, that does a complete disservice to how incredible this place is. It’s more of a resort, but without the flashiness and price gouging. For instance, a beer here was actually cheaper than at the brewery itself and dinner was priced in line with what you’d get elsewhere in town.
We loved doing the Hakone loop from the inn and used the free shuttle service to get to the Gora station to start with the cable car.
We also really enjoyed the but kicker walk to coffee camp where their cappuccino and latte are just perfect. "
"I’m born and raised in Japan but currently living in the US. I have experienced nice Onsen hotels, but this is the best. I’m pretty sure that I’ll come back to this place!!"
"Appreciate free drinks after 3PM and beers Etc, after 7PM. Fantastic breakfast.
Very kind staffs.
Very comfortable and considerate hotel.
Tiny thing one chair will be nice addition."
