The staff was absolutely amazing. The onsen is lovely, the food is great, and the views are fantastic. This was our splurge of the trip and it was worth every penny.

Overall excellent stay. Yet, they couldn’t accommodate for late check-out. It was hard to look for taxi to drive back to Gora station, instead we had to walked down with our luggages. They should at least provided transportation.

Fantastic stay and host!

I was originally worried because of the lack of reviews on Expedia, but the hotel was truly very beautiful. The rooms are very quiet and clean, and the hotel is right across the street from a 7-11, so you can get meals there if you need to. Transportation was a little tough, as there was not many trains, but there was a bus stop right outside the hotel which was convenient.

Staffs spoke fluent English and are super communicative. Overall great experience, scenery of the onsen is amazing. Just want to highlight though, when we used the shuttle bus to arrive at the Gora Station, bus driver didn’t really help to carry the luggages down which is fine, just feels a bit weird to see the contrast before and after leaving the hotel. Overall, hospitality 9.5/10.

Amazing modern ryokan with private open air onsen on balcony! Spectacular views of the mountains all the way to the ocean! Great service from friendly and accommodating staff serving in room meals! Large public bath in basement with sauna and free massage chairs!

One of the most beautiful, peaceful, serene hotels we have ever stayed at! Located in area with lots of trees. Private onsen is simply amazing. The Japanese breakfast was the best we have ever had. Highly recommend!

Amazing dinner in the hotel restaurant. The Wagyu beef was melt in your mouth fantastic. Great wine. The private onsen was perfect and so relaxing at the end of the night. Super comfortable bed and spacious room. Wish I had booked two nights. My only complaint is the coffee in the room is more espresso style and I love a big hearty cup of coffee in the morning. The hotel doesn’t offer coffee in the lobby which is a bummer. We didn’t add breakfast just because we don’t usually do breakfast....

Always enjoy my stay at this property but was disappointed this time with breakfast. They no longer serve drinks to order instead a big thermos for coffee and tea were on the counter, of course taste was subpar. The manager saw my surprise at this and offered drinks to order but I believe this should be a minimum standard for a brand like Hyatt Regency. In my humble opinion, you don’t need curry in the morning buffet but you should offer quality coffee and tea to kick off the day pleasantly.

We had a long travel day the day prior so having our own private onsen to relax in along with the traditional meals was a lovely way to start our tour of this beautiful country.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. We had a disastrous experience with another Hakone hotel (see my other review). As a result, we booked this hotel only the night before to get a true Hakone Ryokan experience. we reached this hotel around 11:30 am with our 5-month-old drenched in rain. The owner immediately got out, greeted us, offered tea, and gave us a chance to dry out. She also had the hotel shuttle drop us to Hakone Open Air Museum while she prepared our room. The hotel was luxury at its finest. The staff was very helpful always always nice. We felt comfortable and never felt like the staff was judging us or trying to make things difficult. Our room was shaking with our own private onsen. That was amazing and a well deserved break in between our Tokyo vacation to just relax.

10/10 would 100% go back

Fabulous beautiful location by the lake, convenient to public transport and easy views of Mount Fuji. It’s a brand new hotel with many amenities, good size room, exceptionally attentive staff plus the owner is incredibly nice and offers all kinds of tours. They also have vilas with private Onsen which we definitely will try next time!

I live in Japan and have been to a fair few ryokans- this was by far the best one. My friend was visiting from England and she wanted to experience the ryokan culture- she was not disappointed. The staff were incredibly welcoming and pandered to our every need. There are 3 separate baths to choose from, the best being the outdoor one which boasted incredible scenic views. Everything about Yamagaso is fantastic, I can't wait to go back.

The place is far from the major attractions but you do not book this place for that. The room is great and having an Onsen at your reach is amazing for relaxing.

The hotel is very close by to the Hakone-Yumoto station. You can take a shuttle bus (only 100 yen) if you arrive at the station sooner than the hotel check in time of 2PM. Otherwise the hotel shuttle will do a complimentary pick up at the station from 2PM onward.
