Amazing dinner in the hotel restaurant. The Wagyu beef was melt in your mouth fantastic. Great wine. The private onsen was perfect and so relaxing at the end of the night. Super comfortable bed and spacious room. Wish I had booked two nights. My only complaint is the coffee in the room is more espresso style and I love a big hearty cup of coffee in the morning. The hotel doesn’t offer coffee in the lobby which is a bummer. We didn’t add breakfast just because we don’t usually do breakfast....

Hakone Airu was a wonderful stay that will form part of our unforgettable trip to Japan. At first, I was hesitant to book this hotel because of the limited number of reviews. In the end, I took a chance and went a "Superior Room" with in-room bath. To be honest, not sure what the difference is between the different room types. Such a room with dinner & breakfast seemed to cost a lot more at other hotels. Not sure what else you get in other places; but I'm sure it can't get much better than...

I love the hotel. Tsukino is an interesting and successful synthesis of traditional ryokan atmosphere with modern facilities. While my room comes with TV, fridge, western-style couch, a king sized bed, and a modern bathroom, the rest of the decoration is Japanese in style. The room also comes with a tube in the balcony. Always enjoy my stay at this property but was disappointed this time with breakfast. They no longer serve drinks to order instead a big thermos for coffee and tea were on the counter, of course taste was subpar. The manager saw my surprise at this and offered drinks to order but I believe this should be a minimum standard for a brand like Hyatt Regency. In my humble opinion, you don’t need curry in the morning buffet but you should offer quality coffee and tea to kick off the day pleasantly.

The hotel is very close by to the Hakone-Yumoto station. You can take a shuttle bus (only 100 yen) if you arrive at the station sooner than the hotel check in time of 2PM. Otherwise the hotel shuttle will do a complimentary pick up at the station from 2PM onward.
