During the 18th century there was a tradition, that on the first Friday in July, a large number of East Enders would travel to Fairlop to eat a meal of bacon and beans beneath as well as partake in general celebrations beneath an ancient oak tree. By the 1750s it was estimated that over 100,000 people could be expected to attend. The original oak blew down in 1820 and the celebration declined, perhaps as a result of licensing laws. The New Fairlop Oak was planted in 1951 and sits in the middle of Fullwell Cross roundabout. The building behind is the Fullwell Cross library.

"Interesting place. Advertised as a guest house on some sites and Bed and Breakfast on others. Unfortunately when we arrived were told breakfast was not included - that seemed strange I booked the room on the pretence it served breakfast - being a "Guest House". "The location of this hotel is amazing! You step outside the lobby and see the London Bridge. The room was pleasant enough and comfortable. I have to comment on the shower and how outdated it is. I don’t like the half shower door because all the water ends on the floor. Its height makes it extremely difficult and uncomfortable to enter and exit. "
