"We booked an executive twin room and were told on arrival that we had been upgraded from that room (which would have been on the 10th, 11th or 12th floor) to Room 1706 near the top of the hotel, with a fantastic view out over Porto to the Douro River and even a little piece of the Atlantic Ocean. The room was extremely quiet and very comfortable (although the pillows could use an upgrade). The internet connection was out our first night, so neither TV nor wifi worked, but we told the desk staff about it when we went out our first morning and it was fixed by the time we got back. Breakfast was very nice, served in a very large room, with lots of choices (including port and sparkling wine!) and specialty coffees available by order. The hotel is not centrally located, but metro stops are within walking distance and the metro is very easy to use, and taxis (inexpensive by US standards) easily got us to train stations for day trips and to the airport for departure."

"It was perfect as it always is - honestly the only downside was a guy called Carlos who works in the restaurant who made me put a tip and then when I gave him a decent tip he started negotiating for a higher tip - tipping is not standard in Portugal or anywhere in Europe and I even gave him a good review on another website after he begged me to. It was a shame then for him to insist I tipped him (fine) and then start bartering with me to give him a higher tip like I’m in a bazaar in Istanbul (not fine). "

"This hotel is perfectly situated in Porto’s historic centre & an ideal base, close to all of the major attractions. The hotel decor is modern, with a nod to the past, and kept spotlessly clean and well maintained. My room was spacious and well equipped, with a lovely buffet breakfast provided in the morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would certainly be very happy to return."
